Author Guidelines

Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables publishes original, unpublished research articles related to housing, sustainable communities, and territory from a multidisciplinary perspective. The journal accepts submissions in Spanish and English, and all manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review.

Requirements for Manuscript Submission

Manuscripts submitted for possible publication in Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables must be submitted in their final version through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, together with all required documentation. Submissions sent by any other means will not be considered.

1. Originality and Exclusive Submission Statement. Authors must complete and submit the Originality and Exclusive Submission Statement, providing the required information for all authors. Submitted manuscripts must be original and unpublished, and the authors must certify that the manuscript is not under consideration for publication by any other journal or publisher.

2. Final Version of the Manuscript. Authors must upload the complete manuscript together with all required supplementary files in their final version. No modifications will be accepted once the editorial process has begun.

Requirements for Manuscript Preparation

The following requirements must be observed when submitting manuscripts:

1. Submit the manuscript as an electronic word processing file (Microsoft Word or compatible format) without password protection. PDF files are not accepted for the editorial process.

2. Submit all photographs and images as electronic files in JPG (or a compatible format) with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Figures, tables, and charts must also be provided as separate editable spreadsheet files. Images of figures, tables, or charts are not suitable for the editorial process.

3. Authors must hold the necessary reproduction rights for all graphic materials, images, photographs, artwork, or any other copyrighted content included in the manuscript, whether these rights belong to the authors themselves or have been obtained from third parties.

Once all submission requirements have been fulfilled, the manuscript will be forwarded for peer review.

Lineamientos

1. No fees are charged for manuscript submission, editorial processing, peer review, or publication.

2. Submitted manuscripts must present original results derived from high-quality academic research and fall within the journal's aims and scope.

3. If the research has received funding or institutional support, this information must be disclosed in both the manuscript and the submission form.

Authors must declare any conflicts of interest, sources of funding, and, where applicable, the use of generative artificial intelligence tools, in accordance with the journal's editorial policies.

4. Authors

The journal accepts manuscripts submitted by a single author or by multiple authors. The contribution of each author must be declared in accordance with the taxonomia CRediT.

All authors are required to provide their ORCID iD.

To promote diversity among authors and institutions, the journal will seek to ensure that the same author does not publish more than one article per issue. Likewise, the journal encourages the rotation and diversity of authorship across consecutive issues. However, this does not constitute an absolute restriction, as editorial decisions are based primarily on the academic quality and relevance of the submitted manuscripts.

Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts may be submitted in Spanish or English.

The manuscript must be prepared using Arial 12-point font, with single line spacing. Research articles should be between 5,000 and 10,000 words in length.

• Title. The title should be concise, informative, and should not exceed 15 words.

• Keywords. Include three to five keywords that accurately identify the subject area of the manuscript.

• Abstract. The abstract must not exceed 250 words and should reflect the overall structure of the article by strictly following the organization below:

  1. Objective(s): Describe the purpose of the study and the research objectives.

  2. Methodology: Briefly describe the methods used, including the study design, population or sample selection, and statistical techniques employed for data analysis.

  3. Results: Summarize the main findings and their interpretation.

  4. Limitations/Implications: Define the limitations of the study in terms of time, scope, resources, or other relevant aspects.

  5. Originality/Value: Briefly explain the originality of the work and its contribution to the field, based on the relevant literature.

  6. Conclusions: Present the implications of the findings and their relationship to the objectives of the research.

• Abstract in English. Authors must provide an English translation of the title, abstract, and keywords.

• Main Text. The manuscript should include an Introduction clearly presenting the background of the study, the methodology or analytical approach, the main body of the work, Results, Conclusions, and References. When appropriate, authors may organize the manuscript into clearly differentiated sections and subsections using typographical hierarchy only (without Arabic or Roman numbering).

• Boldface. Bold type should be used only for section and subsection headings. Italics may be used to emphasize words or phrases when necessary.

• Footnotes. If included, footnotes must appear at the bottom of the page, be numbered consecutively, and be used exclusively for comments or explanatory notes.

• Figures, Tables, and Charts. Figures, tables, and charts must be provided in editable format and inserted in their appropriate location within the manuscript. If adapted or reproduced from another source, the corresponding reference must be provided. If they are the authors' own work, this should be explicitly indicated.

• References. The reference list must include only the works cited in the text. Sources consulted but not cited should not be included. References must appear at the end of the manuscript in alphabetical order.

• Citation Style. References and in-text citations must follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA), Seventh Edition (APA 7th ed.).

• Reference Management. Authors are encouraged to use reference management software and to include DOIs and active URLs whenever available.

Bool Reviews

• Book reviews should critically examine recently published books relevant to the fields of social sciences, architecture, urban planning, engineering, and design that have made a significant contribution to the scientific community.

• The first page must include the complete bibliographic reference of the book using the following format:

  Surname, First Name. (Year). Title. Place of Publication: Publisher.

• Book reviews must comply with the same technical requirements established for research articles and should be between 1,300 and 2,000 words in length.
