Focus and scope

Housing and Sustainable Communities is an international, multidisciplinary, open-access scientific journal aimed at researchers, specialists, academics, and graduate students interested in the study of housing, cities, sustainable communities, rural settlements, territories, and habitat-related technologies.

The journal publishes original research articles, partial or final results of scientific projects, and book reviews from the perspectives of the social sciences, architecture, urban planning, engineering, and design. Its purpose is to promote theoretical, conceptual, and applied discussion through the dissemination of original and innovative knowledge related to housing and its urban and territorial context.

Housing and Sustainable Communities is edited and funded by the University of Guadalajara and the National Laboratory for Housing and Sustainable Communities (SECIHTI).

The journal is published twice a year and provides open access to all articles, assigning a DOI (Digital Object Identifier) to each published work. Manuscripts are accepted in either Spanish or English and undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Publication Fees: No charges are applied for manuscript submission, peer review, processing, publication, or access to articles.

Housing and Sustainable Communities adheres to the ethical principles and best editorial practices promoted by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Journal description

Housing and Sustainable Communities serves as a platform for the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge on housing and sustainable communities. The journal considers this pairing as a complex field of study whose understanding requires multidisciplinary approaches and multiple scales of analysis and intervention.

The journal promotes research related to housing as a fundamental human right, as a strategic component of urban and territorial development, and as an area of innovation that contributes to sustainability in its social, economic, environmental, and technological dimensions.

Furthermore, the journal is part of the editorial strategy of the National Laboratory for Housing and Sustainable Communities (SECIHTI), aimed at strengthening the generation and dissemination of scientific knowledge in this field.
