History

Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables began publication in the January–June 2017 period as an initiative promoted by the University of Guadalajara and the National Laboratory for Housing and Sustainable Communities (SECIHTI), with the collaboration of national and international specialists and academic peers.

The journal was established with the purpose of providing a platform for the dissemination and discussion of scientific knowledge related to housing, cities, sustainable communities, and territory, from the perspectives of the social sciences, architecture, urban planning, engineering, and design.

Since its inception, Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables has been published electronically through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform under an open-access model and a double-blind peer-review process. Its mission is to contribute to the generation, dissemination, and transfer of scientific and technological knowledge concerning habitat and sustainability, while promoting academic exchange among researchers and institutions in Mexico and internationally.

Beginning with Issue 20 (July–December 2026), the contents of Vivienda y Comunidades Sustentables are published under the Creative Commons CC BY-NC 4.0 (Attribution–NonCommercial) license.
